How to Delegate so Gen X Employees Stay Engaged

Posted by

In my last blog, I talked about Boomers and delegation. If Baby Boomers mastered the art of delegation, Gen X perfected it.  That’s because Gen X had to be laser focused to navigate their formative years. Between stagflation, high divorce rates, and the humiliation of both the Iran Contra crisis and the Challenger explosion, they learned early on to be resourceful and pragmatic when moving forward.  Don’t forget that this is the era of TQM, Japanese management models and organizational  re-engineering. This generation took delegation to the next level, almost automating it.

So if you’re a Baby Boomer or a Millennial, ask your Gen X colleagues for help with laser delegation. Boomers and Gen Y are so team focused, they often forget the bottom line, something that Gen X can help them with.

And Gen X, don’t forget that you’re sandwiched between two generations that are team oriented and consensus driven. So reach out to these groups if it’s not a time sensitive issue; you’ll get a wider perspective on the issue at hand.
I’ll talk about how to best delegate to a Gen Y in my next blog. Stay tuned!
